On 16 June 2008, 145 civil society organisations from over 35 countries joined together to sign a letter to Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda calling for action to end the global sanitation and water crisis at the forthcoming G8 Summit.
As Chair of the Hokkaido-Toyako G8 summit, Prime Minister Fukuda will lead discussions on stepping up efforts to meet the Millennium Development Goal targets on access to safe sanitation and clean water. End Water Poverty campaigners across the world have so far taken over 900,000 actions calling for the G8 to deliver a global action plan to drive progress in providing sanitation and water for all.
The summit will be held on 5-7 July 2008, and representatives of End Water Poverty will be in attendance to try and influence discussions and report back on developments.
