People demanding change together
2 July 2009
A spectacular update to all supporters and campaigners - one million campaign actions have been taken to date, pressuring global governments to end water poverty.
Action for the campaign kicked off with 100,000 squares being knitted by UK campaigners and sewn into a 250 metre long river, which snaked through the streets of London and into the corridors of power at Downing Street, demanding then Prime Minister Tony Blair took a stand against water poverty.
Over half a million people in Bangladesh were motivated to pledge support through the collaborative effort of 45 organisations working nationwide, and over 100,000 people signed the petition in Nepal sending a clear message to their governments that water and sanitation must be achieved for all.
With further contributions from events in Zambia, Ghana, India, Nigeria, Canada and many others, the campaign has truly gone global and is pushing water and sanitation up the political agenda worldwide.
End Water Poverty is a voice which is powered, and strengthened, by the activities, energy and involvement of hundreds of organisations. If you want to find out how to get your organization involved, please read more about joining.
