A long line of vibrant yellow and white jerry cans snaked along the banks of the River Thames today, as campaigners collected water from the river and delivered it to Downing Street along with a petition from 80,000 supporters.
End Water Poverty members organised the stunt in London to urge Prime Minister Gordon Brown to talk taps and toilets at the G8 summit in L'Aquila, Italy next week.
African women joined vocal and numerous campaigners from the UK, in an act symbolising the arduous walk millions of woman and young girls make daily to collect water which is often dirty and unfit for drinking.

The petition was gathered by several UK members, including Tearfund, WaterAid, UNICEF UK and Samaritan's Purse. Events to collect petitions included WaterAid receiving a flurry of support at last week's Glastonbury festival, where campaigners met with Nick Clegg MP, leader of the Liberal Democrats, to highlight the call for water and sanitation for all.
